So I've decided I will kinda stay here and kinda not.
We've been searching for a dirt cheap cottage/farmhouse near Brian's job up at a university in CT. That way we can go there on the weekends and vacations while Brian can also use it on days when he has to work or teach a class in the evening.
Maybe I'm nuts but it feels right.

Our son and his wife have an arrangement like that.
They live in New Zealand and he works in Sydney Australia. He has small apartment in Sydney where he stays during the week. Its a long commute, but it seems to work for them. Try it, you'll like it!
That sounds good. Are there still dirt cheap places up there?
It could be the best of both worlds. My husband and I have had a similar situation for years - although different because he had to stay away all week every week and work. It wasn't easy at times. It takes care and a certain mindset, but that said, you guys are smart enough to make it work.
Wow! I'm surprised by what you've settled on, but I'm glad you'll be around. We need you here!
Sounds pretty cool to me.
floridora - thanks for the support! I need a pep squad right now.
jar - there are inexpensive places but they are NOT in NYC. We're talking 60 miles away - which is a far commute for New Yorkers (it translates into a 90 minute ride).
ellesu - I remember your experiences so well - didn't you home school for a period of time. If I have half your determination and confidence - then I'm going to be all right.
Writermama - I'll explain in person.
Kranki - thanks! But does Yoshi like it?
i think its a brilliant idea.
i'm house hunting myself, well apt hunting. it's a drag. i feel like its been going on forever! if you hear about any openings in your building, block, -- anything, please let me know!
oops - EVI, the previous comment from "the museum of the city of NY" is me (signed on under my boyfriend's name) - Linda (the village vegetable)
I love that idea. Some of the best arrangements are made when feeling off balance!
