Maiden Voyage

The Air Shuttle Discovery returned safely to Earth. I suppose now is a good time to shoot myself into cyberspace.

I'm 42 years old and still a sucker for NASA. Watching the space ship/plane/thing pop through the earth's atmosphere and land safely in California blew my mind. Guess I drank too much Tang as a kid.

I dragged my seven year old son Ben out of bed to witness the grand finale of this outerspace odyssey. He looked on as if he was watching a Delta 747 coming in from Orlando - interested, mildly curious and fully confident that the landing would be perfectly executed. He probably assumes that R2D2 was overseeing NASA's master control room.

Astronauts and surfers are cool.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts regarding other NASA missions.

The blase attitudes of the young... I was very relieved to see the ol' ship land safely. Good to see your blog up and running.

Astronauts are definately cool. I too, was captivated to watch the landing and ended up late for work!

As a kid in the 70's I dreamt of being an astronaut, well that and riding my bicycle across the entirety of Great Wall in China.

Now I am just a New Yorker raising money for interesting causes. Though I have been recently spotted at the Asimov lecture series at the Museum of Natural History.

To infinity...and beyond!

I hope that NASA's recent scientific successes don't cause some to question the validity of Intelligent Design.

Capt. Vorang - your tone sounds vaguely familiar...didn't we sit next to each other at the star academy?

Kranki - how kind you are to stop by my blog. It's like getting a house warming gift.

greenpointer - I did hear about your presence a the Asimov Lectures. You were the one wearing solar energy hot pants!

Vorang - I wouldn't worry about NASA compromising the theory of Intelligent Design. I believe that the Shuttle Discovery has a bumper afixed to the back indicating that "Jesus is MY Homeboy!"

Satan's Helper...indeed. Your obsession with Diane Lane is almost as pathetic as my obsession with Christian Bale. Maybe they'll be in a movie together and we can look on and spontaneously combust! Sadly at 42 - my sugar walls have become Splenda walls. thanks anyway sweety!

Love your blog, EVI! (And our blogs "match".)

Reading your entry I realized how, in some ways, we pay little attention to the shuttles/space program when all is well...although I was with family in the DC-area when it took off this time and we waited around to watch it go. I missed the landing because it was put off a few times; I didn't know until it was over that it was down and safe.

AND...I thought about how (on my birthday, which I thought was why they picked the date) in 1969 they walked on the moon. Now, we take space travel so for granted.

But astronauts ARE COOL.

Thanks, Hh

Hh - I loved that you thought they picked your birthday to walk on the moon....in a sense they did! Space is a big wonder world - how did we ever stop being in awe of it? Your blog is way cool!

Lee Lee - why do I feel you are the blog name for Barbarella? I usually have an anxiety attack right before dawn so that should set me up nicely for the meteor shower viewing on my apartment roof. I'm not sure if the chances are higher that I'll get mugged or hit by a meteor at that time.
